A weekend in Geraldton doesn’t need a packed schedule.
With two days to explore, you can see some of the city’s best-known landmarks, spend time along the coast and still leave room for a slow breakfast, an unplanned stop or an afternoon by the water.
If you’re heading to Geraldton for a weekend getaway or stopping for a couple of nights while travelling through Western Australia’s Mid West, here’s one way to make the most of 48 hours.
Friday Evening: Arrive, Settle In and Keep It Simple
If you’re arriving in Geraldton on Friday afternoon or evening, resist the temptation to start sightseeing straight away.
Check into your accommodation, unpack and get settled. After a day on the road, an easy dinner and an early night might be exactly what you need.
If you arrive with enough daylight left, take a short drive or walk towards the coast for your first glimpse of the Indian Ocean. Save the exploring for tomorrow. / coastal setting.

Saturday Morning: Breakfast and the Waterfront
If you’re arriving in Geraldton, start Saturday at an easy pace.
Find somewhere for breakfast and coffee, then make your way towards the Geraldton Foreshore. A morning walk along the waterfront is a simple way to get your bearings while enjoying the coastal setting.
Rather than rushing between stops, give yourself time to wander. If something catches your attention along the way, stop and have a look.
From here, you can continue to the Museum of Geraldton if you’re interested in learning more about the region’s maritime history, natural environment and Yamaji history and culture.
Saturday Afternoon: Choose History or the Coast

Instead of trying to tick off several Geraldton attractions in one afternoon, choose what interests you most.
For history, make the HMAS Sydney II Memorial your main stop. The memorial is one of Geraldton’s significant landmarks and is best experienced when you have time to appreciate its individual elements.
If you’d prefer to spend your afternoon outside, head towards the coast instead. Visit Point Moore, take a walk or find a beach and spend some time by the water.
There’s always another day for whatever you don’t choose.
Saturday Evening: Dinner and Sunset
Leave Saturday evening relatively open.
Find somewhere for dinner, pick up takeaway or simply see where the evening takes you. If the conditions are right, make time to get back to the coast around sunset.
Watching the sun go down over the Indian Ocean is a simple way to finish your first full day in Geraldton, without needing another attraction or activity on the schedule.
Then head back to your accommodation and recharge for Sunday.
Sunday Morning: Take the Cultural Route

After breakfast, spend Sunday morning discovering a different side of Geraldton.
You could visit St Francis Xavier Cathedral and take in its distinctive architecture before continuing to the Geraldton Regional Art Gallery.
Prefer to stay outside? Skip the indoor stops and look for public art as you wander through the city and along the waterfront. Beresford Foreshore and the Horizon sculpture can also be worked into your morning.
The idea isn’t to see everything. Choose one or two places that interest you and leave enough time to enjoy them.
Sunday Lunch: Leave Room for Something Unplanned
One advantage of keeping your weekend itinerary flexible is having time for places you discover after you arrive.
By Sunday, you may have passed a café, pub or restaurant that caught your attention. Make that your lunch stop rather than planning every meal before the weekend begins.
Afterwards, decide how active you want your final afternoon to be.
Sunday Afternoon: Pick Your Pace

This is where your Geraldton weekend can go in a few different directions.
Want more time by the water? Head back to the coast for a walk, swim or some time on the beach when conditions are suitable.
Feel like getting active? Spend some time walking or explore Chapman River Regional Park.
Still have sightseeing energy? Visit one of the Geraldton attractions you skipped on Saturday.
Ready to do very little? Find somewhere with an ocean view and enjoy your last few hours without an itinerary.
Keeping Sunday afternoon flexible also gives you some breathing room if the weather changes or you decide you want to spend longer somewhere you visited earlier.
Staying Another Night?
If you don’t need to leave Geraldton on Sunday afternoon, an extra night means there’s even less reason to rush.
Enjoy another evening by the coast, revisit somewhere you liked or save one of Geraldton’s attractions for Monday morning.
You could also use the extra time to start looking beyond the city and consider what else you’d like to explore across Western Australia’s Mid West and Coral Coast.

Make Geraldton Caravan Park Your Weekend Base
Where you stay can make a difference to the pace of a short getaway. When you only have a couple of days, having a comfortable base means you can settle in between outings rather than treating the entire weekend like one long sightseeing schedule.
Geraldton Caravan Park provides accommodation for short and extended stays, whether Geraldton is your weekend destination or one stop on a longer Western Australian road trip.
Arrive, settle in and explore Geraldton at your own pace. And if two days turns out not to be enough, you can always stay a little longer.
